Thailand Food

One of the main reasons why people choose to visit Thailand is its wonderful food. In many cases, this is reason enough to go to this country, as you will find it some of the most delicious food in the world. From curries to fruit shakes, fresh fish cooked in a huge number of ways and stir fries, this is just the top of the iceberg. Thai food is also extremely cheap, so you can indulge in it as much as you want. You can eat delicious pad thai for 25 baht from a street stall or you can go the luxury route and spend $100 on a meal with ten courses at a 5 star hotel in Bangkok. It’s your choice, but either way, you get more value for the money than in any western country.

Chances are that as a backpacker you will find yourself spending more time in street stalls though and that’s OK, as there is a huge variety of food to choose from on these streets and the food is safe and delicious. You also have the choice of going to small sidewalk restaurants and while in other Asian countries you would need to be careful about how clean it is, in Thailand you usually don’t have this problem. In most cases even street stalls cook your food in front of you, so it’s hot and fresh.

In most cases, Thai food will be eaten with a spoon and fork. You do it by keeping the spoon in the right hand and eating with it, while the fork is used to add food in your spoon. You only need to use chopsticks if you’re eating dishes of East Asian style or noodle soups.

In most cases, you have to share the Thai food with your friends, as everyone has individual rice and soup bowls, but the rest of the dishes are placed in the table’s center, so anyone can dive in whatever dish they want.
